Born on 3rd July, 1948 at Ahmedabad, Bankim Pathak (Bankim Pravinchandra Pathak) is son of a well known folk singer. Since his childhood Bankim was deeply inspired from his father. During his school days, Bankim was also supported by his principal Mrs. Jayaben Patel, who always encouraged him to sing devotional songs during prayer time and other small functions in the school. After completing his school, he joined St. Xavier's College and graduated with B.A. in 1969. In his college, Bankim always sang songs of his favorite singer Mohmad Rafi in almost all functions. He is therefore known as "Voice of Rafi" in his friends and social circle. Bankim Pathak took his primary training of music from Shri Navinbhai Shah and Shri Krishnakant Parikh (Radio Artist). But after his basic voice cultural training from Pro. Sudhir Khandekar, Bankim’s was truly trained in sing in a voice that attracted people. Today Bankim Pathak believes that he got his real training from Pro. Sudhir Khandekar and Shri Sharad Khandekar (Orchestra Khandekar Brothers). In the year 1969, Shri Ambrish Parikh of "Visarata Sur" fame gave Bankim Pathak his first break as a professional singer under his banner. From the year 1976 to 1980, Bankim started performing with orchestra ‘Khandekar Brothers’ as a leading singer, thus fine tuning his talent. On 8th April, 1980, at Jaishankar Sundri Hall, Ahmedabad, Bankim Pathak performed his first solo performance with female singer Anila Gohil under the banner of "Bankim-Anila Concert". The program got a huge response from all music lovers and fans of Shri Mohmad Rafi and experience was unforgettable. On public demand from other cities, several shows were organized in Surat, Navsari and Baroda as Bankim Pathak came to be known as “Voice of Rafi”. 31st July, 1980 - Mohmad Rafi passed away. All the music lovers were shocked. Six months down in January, 1981 Bankim Pathak started his own groupe - "EK YAAD RAFI KE BAAD" (Bankim Pathak Night with Anila Gohil) and performed all over India. He earned permanent place in the hearts of Rafi Saab's fans as they enjoyed Rafi Saab's voice again - through Bankim Pathak. Bankim Pathak made his first tour of abroad, UK, in May 1981. There he had 10 successful shows of "EK YAAD RAFI KE BAAD". 1981 was the year of the disabled. As Bankim Pathak himself is disabled, he arranged one charity show for the same and collected 33,000 pounds (Approx. Rs. 6,60,000) and donated to St. Merry Children Hospital, London. This was appreciated all over UK and India. After this successive tour Bankim Pathak performed all around the world. Today, in his most of overseas tours, he gives one charity show for disabled.
